Helmsman Trawlers

Helmsman Trawlers are solidly built and finely-crafted motor yachts. Helmsman Trawlers® are crafted to please the most discerning owners, though are surprisingly affordable. With modern wide-beam hull designs, top name equipment, and fit-and-finish achievable only with labor-intensive craftsmanship, they are a prize choice for those who won’t compromise quality but have no desire to pay too much. The Helmsman Trawlers® factory has considerable experience in the construction of these fine yachts, offers many options, and can expertly accommodate custom modifications.

What Sets Helmsman Apart?

Over the years Helmsman Trawlers® has earned recognition as a proven brand due to our finely crafted yachts. Working closely with a dedicated yard, Helmsman collaborates with customers and incorporates their customizations and preferences into the true boat of their dreams. Helmsman Trawlers’ low-rise pilothouse and sedan layouts provide visibility astern from the helm while reducing windage and rolling when compared to other vessels. The boats are equipped with a full keel, large rudder, bow-thruster, and stern-thruster as standard equipment. These characteristics make the boats a pleasure to operate. Systems and on-the-water training are included with every delivery to beautiful Charleston, SC, and Helmsman Trawlers are backed with a 12-month general warranty and 36-month hull and deck warranty.

The hulls of Helmsman Trawlers are robustly constructed of solid fiberglass using modern fiberglass hull construction techniques. Other FRP elements are manufactured using vacuum infusion. Full keels provide capable sea-keeping ability and modern diesel engines provide dependable long-range performance and trouble-free maintenance. Multi-layered construction of interior decks with sound attenuating elements reduce engine noise, and new insulation in our 38E and 43 models helps control temperature and deadens exterior sounds.

38 Sedan

The Helmsman 38 Sedan is Helmsman Trawlers’ most “traditional” trawler design, and is available with several interior layouts.

With a europa-style trawler configuration, featuring full walk-around covered side decks, this is the modern execution of a familiar sedan trawler profile.

The Helmsman 38 Sedan is modified from its predecessor 37 Sedan by moving the transom aft by more than 2′, and using the additional on-deck length to increase the salon interior volume. The upper deck has likewise increased in length by 2’+, allowing for more dinghy-carrying configurations. The cockpit remains the same large size that was a feature on the 37 Sedan.

A variety of interior layouts are available:

  • Single stateroom with separate head and shower compartments
  • Two staterooms with integrated head / shower
  • Salon with U-shaped dinette and raised port side companion seating area and starboard linear galley
  • Salon with L-shaped dinette and forward port L-shaped galley

In all cases the interior is modern yet richly nautical with its use of teak and holly floors and teak joinery. Opening windows are a hallmark of Helmsman Trawlers, for good ventilation. The upper deck is designed for entertaining with seating for six or more, and the flybridge control station is standard.

Construction quality is immediately evidenced by thick decks sections, deep gel coat, sturdy rails, quality hardware, abundant teak (interior only!) and extraordinary fit and finish.

Standard propulsion is a Cummins QSB 6.7 litre 380 hp electronically-controlled common rail engine. Other hp ratings (up to 550 hp) are available.

Minimal exterior maintenance and reliable, economical propulsion systems allow owners to spend more time cruising. A wide range of options and custom configurations are available for order. We’d like to talk with you about your ideas!

Base Price includes shipping, delivery, commissioning and training – Seattle or Charleston. Taxes and duties not included. Shipping price adjustments may be made for other destinations / countries.

38E Pilothouse

The 38 Pilothouse is an innovative fast trawler design featuring a large “low rise” pilothouse that is open to the salon and prevents the separation common in other pilothouse models. The full-beam main salon is expansive, comfortable, and richly nautical. And a second day head is unusual to find in a boat this size, but an extremely practical feature with guests aboard. The dinette and day head can be enclosed to create a private suite for occasional guests, and a layout featuring a second dedicated stateroom is also available. A commanding flybridge, high bow, covered aft deck, deep pilothouse side-deck footwells and wide flybridge access stairs port and starboard increase this boat’s practicality and safety in all weather conditions.

Helmsman Trawlers® has revised the Helmsman 38 Pilothouse model, with the new designation of 38E Pilothouse. Modifications to the deck design add an extended cockpit cover, improve rain drip control around the pilothouse roof, and modify the forward window shape and the vessel’s overall appearance. In addition, the 38E now includes even better engine noise control with additional sound attenuation materials included in the multi-layered construction of all interior floors.

Construction quality is immediately evidenced by thick decks sections, deep gel coat, sturdy rails, quality hardware, abundant teak (interior only!) and extraordinary fit and finish.

The Helmsman Trawlers 38 Pilothouse was designed for those who want to cruise comfortably and economically, enjoy the spacious feeling of a much larger boat while still fitting into a 40’ slip, and surround themselves with the beauty of well-crafted hardwood joinery and other fine materials.

Standard propulsion is a Cummins QSB 6.7 litre 380 hp electronically-controlled common rail engine. Other hp ratings (up to 550 hp) are available, as are other brands of engines.

Minimal exterior maintenance and reliable, economical propulsion systems allow owners to spend more time cruising. A wide range of options and custom configurations are available for order. We’d like to talk with you about your ideas!

43E Pilothouse

The 43E Pilothouse is the evolved second generation version of the Helmsman 43 Pilothouse, which was introduced in 2015 to expand upon the popular Helmsman Trawlers 38 Pilothouse model.

The 43E alters the shape and dimensions of exterior windows, modifies the pilothouse roofline and rainwater handling, and adds additional interior sound attenuation features including full acoustic lining of the hull around the master stateroom.

She retains the unique lengthened “low rise” pilothouse design, which offers an open connection with the salon, effective rear visibility from the helm, and a comfortable seating / dining area while underway or in port. The full-beam main salon is extraordinary — in its expansive measurements, its ability to accommodate owners and guests comfortably, and in its stunningly broad views through many large opening windows. The rich joinery is classically nautical and finely constructed. A day head directly off of the salon is an extremely practical feature with guests aboard. The salon dinette and day head can be enclosed to create a private convertible suite for guests.

The master stateroom is roomy, with larger and deeper hanging lockers than on the 38 Pilothouse. Storage shelves line the walls, and drawers and lockers provide additional storage. The guest stateroom features a double berth, a hanging locker, storage lockers and drawers.

Exterior features  include a high bow, midships access for boarding, and a larger cockpit with a full-length cover. Deep pilothouse side-deck footwells and wide flybridge access stairs port and starboard increase this boat’s practicality and safety in all weather conditions. The flybridge accommodates a choice of layouts — center helm with L-shaped settee, or a starboard helm with U-shaped dinette. The boat deck is very large, with plenty of space for a dinghy and/or deck chairs. The entire upper deck is ringed with a no-drip edge.

Construction quality is immediately evidenced by thick deck sections, deep gel coat, sturdy welded double-rung rails, quality hardware, abundant teak (on the interior only!) and extraordinary fit and finish.

The guest stateroom features a double berth, a hanging locker, storage lockers and drawers.
