Steve Ethier grew up in Western New England, but his sailing life didn’t start until he moved to Michigan in the early 1980s.  After moving to Southeast Michigan, Steve joined a sailing club and sailed on Interlake 18s, for several years before becoming a sailing instructor in the program.  Steve purchased his first keel boat five years later in Traverse City Michigan, which began his love for the crystal-clear waters of the northern Great Lakes.  First Star was the first of five cruising sailboats that he has owned over the years.  In 2004, Steve purchased a new Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 35 , 2Sigma.  He and his family sailed that boat over hundreds of miles on the Great Lakes, from the Lake Erie Islands, to Mackinac island and beyond.  Steve also raced extensively on Lake St. Clair and Lake Huron, including two Port Huron to Mackinac races aboard the J120 Saralysia.  In 2012, Steve, family and 2 Sigma moved to Charleston so he could continue to pursue his day job, at MUSC.  He quickly became a member, and later a board member, of the Charleston Yacht Club.  Steve and family sailed 2Sigma in many Cora events and Steve participated in several Charleston Race weeks.  While cruising the low country with his family, Steve and Jennifer discovered Dataw Island, which is where they now reside.  In addition to sailing, cruising and racing on his own boats, Steve has captained charter boats in the Caribbean, Bahamas, Southern California, and Newport Rhode Island.  Needless to say, Steve loves being on and around boats, and would love nothing more than help others continue their adventures on the water.
